When to Add Another Site to Your Portfolio

August 23rd, 2008 | Posted in setting up multiple blogs

I have start building my portfolio, I want my jewelry collection to rock !

Should you add a website to your portfolio daily, weekly, or monthly. If you have the time, do it as often as possible. The trick is to ensure that you market a new website or blog before rushing onto something else. Ensure that traffic is coming to the site. It is advisable to continue to do so until it has at least earned enough to cover its one year registration fee and any set-up fees.

My plan is continue to add more and more sites to my portfolio, but ensuring that they all have traffic and are generating income. After one year’s time, if certain sites have not made enough to cover their expenses for the year and the fee to register the domain for yet another year, then I may let them expire.  However, as I become more apt at marketing and generating nice traffic, the likeliness of having to let domains expire will be less and less.

Many people will tell you to keep the amount of sites in your portfolio at a minimal level.  You have to listen to yourself from time to time instead of allowing others to lead you around by the nose. Set up a plan of action that fits your style and implement it. When you make mistakes, don’t sulk, just learn from them and more forward.

Just remember that looking for ways to make fast money sounds OK on paper, but if you are looking for ways to generate money for the long term, you will need to plan further ahead. Start building your portfolio today instead of searching on the internet for that special  someone giving away money. Make that money yourself penny by penny.

As you are growing your portfolio, do you just add one domain at a time or several ?

This should serve as a great reminder to bloggers who are not planning their next step.

I had this mistake before of trying to handle multiple blogs without establishing first the older one, but I am now a bit smarter.

    Thanks for sharing this.

It is tempting to move on quickly, but you should have at least some sort of goal achieved before sprinting ahead. The goal can be to obtain 50 visits per day or to earn on average $1 a day. Doesn’t matter that much, but set a goal.

Thanks for commenting Angel. Come back soon.

I think too many people spin their wheels on creating multiple sites instead of focusing on one good one.

The first blog that people have is a great one to experiment on and then from there branch out. You need to protect your income by diversifying it.

Thanks for the comment Legal Eagle.
