My definition of niche with respect to making money online is a special area of demand for products or services. The focus has to be very specific and not broad. Is it actually easy nowadays to use software packages that provide you with the ability to narrow down and zero-in on hot niches.
If you are having a writer block moment, you can quickly get some neat ideas on new up and coming niches by visiting the google trends page. For instance, the top trend for today seems to be flu tracker, and also flu symptoms is in the 6th position. In other words, if you make a post using flu tracker or flu symptoms in the url, in the post title, and in the anchor text, you may get some freebie traffic happening.
I realize that in this example, flu symptoms searches are popular because we are approaching the flu season. Google is one of the main online info provider as well as a Father, Mother etc.. of the blogosphere so for me personally I think there is no need to search for other methods when we have Google neat-ed up in Itself.
