Should You Use the Top 100 Keywords to Increase Traffic

August 22nd, 2008 | Posted in traffic building

Is someone giving away money making secrets again ? Oh, how shocking, it’s the goof blogger.

I can say flat out, “no no no”. If you were to use the top 100 keywords, you would be competing with millions of backlinks, anchor links and urls that are using the same keywords. You are much better off using phrases that people tend to type into search engines to find information. For instance, the phrase making money online is typed into search engines around  8000 times per month. The amount of backlinks on sites that are linking to target sites with the same keyword phrase in the anchor text is over 3 million ! That level of competition is hard to compete with for newer sites.

The decision on which phrases to use to draw traffic and to place high on search engines all boils down to supply and demand. Blogs or websites are the supply. If the supply is huge in comparison to the demand, your chances of appearing high in search lists is super low. You have to find phrases that have not be over marketed, but have a good demand level. This task may seem impossible, but it isn’t if you work at it.

There are many free keyword generators on the internet that will provide you with large lists of keywords. However,  these lists do not tell you how many times people search certain terms per month, or indicate the competitive strength of sites that are trying to place high on search engines for the top 100 keywords .

Last night I found a program online that allows the user to see how many times per month a certain phrase is searched for by internet users. I love this program since it illustrates how strong the competition is for a string of keywords. For a making money blog, if your blog was to be placed on page one of a search for ‘making money online‘ , your traffic level would be wonderful. Using the program micro niche finder, you will be able to find phrases that are entered by surfers quite often per month and also has relatively low competition from other sites. Utilizing such phrases will make your aim to place higher in the search lists much easier to achieve.

How you determine which keyword phrases to use on your blog ?

Yup, it’s a quite heavy activity to get the best keywords I think, because there are many competitors hunting for the same targeted keywords.

It certainly is extremely hard to place high if thousands of other sites that are more established are trying to place using the same keywords. That’s why to find popular keywords that have lower competition.

    Thanks for commenting today Armand.

Thanks for the blog, it gave me some good ideas. I find that deciding the keywords are the hardest for me. I started blogging for about a week and I enjoy it.

I usually post on other blogs, tell other people about my blog and post my site on fb so other people can visit.

Posting on other blogs is a great way to increase your traffic. Also, I find that if I read numerous blogs that are doing well traffic-wise, they have posts explaining keyword placement and marketing techniques that are helpful.

Thanks for commenting kavita and come back soon.
